Wounded Wing Update

Tuesday, I went in for a follow-up on my broken arm. The xrays showed that it is healing fine, but now they can see a tiny fragment loose in the elbow socket. They will xray it again in January, but will probably just leave it in there. Good news is that I don't have to wear the splint unless I feel like I need to. Woot! The swelling is down and I have more mobility in it now. They said no heavy lifting, or pushing, or hard turning on it. Just to keep gently working on flexibility.

My mom is going home tomorrow, but I think I will be able to manage okay. I took Ella to playgroup this morning and it was my first outing with her since I broke my arm. Luckily, she didn't put up a fight getting in the car seat. Taking Sean to school on Friday will be the test- those two like to conspire against me. ;)

I am slowly starting to work on my Christmas knitting projects and hope to get at least one more finished on time. Only have 40 rows left and I can get about 20 done at a time before it starts hurting.

I did get to give my friend (and knitting guru) a little knitted gift today. A miniature pair of pants to hang on her Christmas tree! Too cute! I am totally inspired to knit a bunch of little mini-clothes for ornaments after finishing this.

Thanks for the well-wishes!

Uno with Nana

Having my mom spend the week with us while my arm is out-of-order has been such a gift! I am so blessed to have her available and interested in helping us and can't thank her enough. She's been thrown in the pit of parenting 3 little ones this week! These kids are busy busy busy and it's a lot for anyone to take on. Then there's me. I haven't been able to help or do what I want and need to do and it's tough giving up things that make you independent. I took the prescribed pain meds for a few days, then quit because it was making me too drowsy and irritable. Not an easy person to be around. Luckily, my arm isn't hurting as consistently now.

Aidan challenged daddy and Nana to a round of Uno one night and they all seemed to have a fun time playing together.

Aidan said Daddy quit after getting beat a few too many times. :)

Not quiet sure how Daddy could lose, since Aidan's card holding technique leaves little mystery involved. Ha ha ha!

My mom left Friday afternoon to go home and spend the weekend with my dad. She wants to get caught up on his laundry and refill her necessities. She's planning on coming back Sunday evening and staying at least until my next doctor appointment on Tuesday morning. Hopefully I will get good news then.

OUCH!

I have a new first to share... my first broken bone! Yesterday morning, when I was taking Sean to school, I slipped on a patch of black ice in the parking lot and broke my right arm! Actually, it's a radial head fracture. Luckily I wasn't carrying Ella when I fell, in fact I was on my way to get her out of the van when I fell. One of Sean's classmates arrived right after I fell, so his mom stayed at the car with Ella while I took Sean into school. I didn't realize that it was broken- it just hurt really bad.

I left the school and drove to Target to do some Christmas shopping but decided in the parking lot that it just hurt too bad to attempt that. I called Doug and he suggested I go in to see my primary care physician. So I drove to the office and Doug dropped me off at the clinic while he took Ella home. I was there from 9:30-11:30, so I was very glad I didn't have her to entertain that long! My doctor did xrays and diagnosed the fracture, then put me in a sling. He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon, who I saw this morning.

I spent the afternoon resting up, thanks to pain meds. My mom drove out to spend the rest of the week with us to help with the kids. Yay Nana!!

The surgeon did more xrays this morning and thinks it heal well without any surgery. I have it in a splint and sling, but have to take it out a few times a day to practice stretching it so the elbow doesn't get stiff. He said the pain should improve within a week, but it may take a month to completely heal.

Its interesting, to say the least, to discover all the things I do, two handed, that I need to learn a new way to do or ease up my control freak issues and let others take over. Some I don't mind letting go of (hee hee, like diaper changes) and some I can't wait to regain (like hair washing!)

Good thing all these years of baby care has made me a quick one hand typer! LOL
